A+ Rating from Wisconsin NORML

I am proud to be the only candidate for the 89th Assembly District to receive an A+ rating from Wisconsin NORML.

Another Blow to PFAS Regulation in WI

“Despite their danger to public health, PFAS remain unregulated in Wisconsin.”

Once again, big business in Wisconsin prevails over our own health and safety:

What's wrong with this picture?

In it, we see a 4-foot-long John Nygren campaign sign in the yard of one of JCI/Tyco’s senior managers.

I don't fault JCI/Tyco's corporate management for knowing who their friend is—but I do fault Rep. Nygren for asking JCI/Tyco's senior management for political favors when he should instead be working to hold them accountable for our PFAS contamination crisis.

August Primary Results

Now that the August 11th Primary is over I’ve been thinking about what we might learn from it.

Happy Election Day!

Wisconsin voters requested over 900,000 absentee ballots for today’s primary!

The EPA Visits Marinette

On August 11th, EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler made a special trip to Marinette to announce that, after 30 years of pollution cleanup, the lower Menominee River has been removed from a list of the 43 most polluted places on the Great Lakes.

Updated WI COVID-19 Numbers

On Saturday, 1,165 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Wisconsin, another single-day record. And on Sunday, we passed 60,000 confirmed cases (395 in Marinette County, 248 in Oconto County, and 4,264 in Brown County).

Mask Mandate

As our WI GOP “stands ready” to return from their 110-plus day vacation to kill Governor Evers’ statewide mask mandate, a recent poll shows that voters across the country overwhelming support a mask mandate.

Schools Reopening

As the only AD89 candidate with children in our public school system, I stand with the freedom of our schools to make their own reopening decisions based upon the reality of this pandemic and not threats from the politicians who control their funding.

Voting Rights Act

55 years ago today, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law.

Get to Know me #1

Do I have any hobbies? Mostly reading books and riding bikes with my kiddos. When I do have a little free time, I build tube guitar amplifiers at a work bench in my basement.

This particular model is loosely based around the 1950s Fender 5F2A topology. I build my own circuit boards on that perforated glass epoxy turret board and source components from a few different places around the web.

I’m sorry to say I don’t have any completed amps to show off, but I’ve given them away to friends, sold them, or traded them all for other gear. This one is a keeper for me though, so I am looking forward to finishing it up!

Another Bike Delivery

Three more yard signs delivered in a 12-mile loop near my house.

Thank you very much to everyone who has requested a sign already - I appreciate all the support!

GOP Pressures School to Reopen

Last week, Republican members of the Assembly sent a letter to school superintendents throughout our state. The letter strongly pressures school districts to force students to attend school in-person. It was signed by 47 of the 63 GOP legislators who control their funding.

Missouri Voters Approve the Federal Medicaid Expansion

Some good news from Missouri! Missouri voters approved the federal Medicaid expansion!

WEAC Endorsement

I am extremely proud to be the only candidate in Assembly District 89 to earn the endorsement of WEAC, the Wisconsin Education Association Council.

GOP Threatens the Mask Mandate #2

I am disappointed to see our current 89th Assembly District Representative, John Nygren, getting ready to fight Wisconsin’s mask order.

Bike Rides

Because I work all week, I really look forward to our long family bikes rides on Saturday mornings.

Senator Hansen on the Mask Mandate

I wear a mask because I don't know if I'm a carrier – I may be asymptomatic or presymptomatic. If I am, I don't want to risk spreading the virus to any of our essential employees or vulnerable populations.

Thank you to Senator Dave Hansen for his leadership on this.

GOP Threatens the Mask Mandate

The Wisconsin GOP has thus far refused to do anything to address the COVID-19 pandemic, but are now threatening to block a measure that would protect our public health. This is unconscionable and shameful. Acting to undermine public health like this will cost lives. The Wisconsin GOP owns this pandemic— the responsibility for every new case of this virus rests squarely in their hands.

Don't Postpone the November Election

Voter equity is extremely important to me. Voting is a fundamental right—our democracy is strongest when everyone is allowed to participate in free, open, and fair elections. We need to do everything we can to provide safe, reasonable, and fair access, and we need to ensure that every vote is counted.

Five states currently conduct elections entirely by mail—Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and Utah.

Voting by mail is safe, secure and should be encouraged.

New Mask Mandate

Governor Tony Evers has declared an Emergency Order requiring individuals to wear face coverings when indoors and not in a private residence, with some exceptions, starting Saturday, August 1, and running through September 28, 2020. As reported, this order will most likely face legal challenges from Republicans.

Sign Delivery #3

If you live near me, I even do sign delivery by bike! Haven't lost one yet...

Sierra Club Endorsement

I am very proud to be the only candidate in Assembly District 89 to earn the endorsement of the Sierra Club!

Spill at the JCI/Tyco Facility

The Wisconsin DNR has reported a contaminated groundwater spill at the JCI/Tyco Stanton Street facility in Marinette, WI. As reported on July 27th, the spill contained PFAS and arsenic contaminated groundwater. The spill entered storm sewer drains, which flow directly into the Menominee River.

For the Kids

Like most parents, I wish my kiddos could stay small forever, but I do really enjoy that they are both big enough to go on long family bike rides now.

Fair Districts Pledge

Voting is a fundamental right—our democracy is strongest when everyone is allowed to participate in free, open, and fair elections.

Today, I took the National Democratic Redistricting Committee's pledge to support fair districts and end manipulation. I stand with the NDRC and Eric Holder—now is the time to end gerrymandering because politicians shouldn't pick their voters, voters should choose their representatives.

Broadband Access

Every resident should have access to secure, open, reliable internet access regardless of whether they live in rural or urban Wisconsin. It is essential for a 21st Century economy.

Voting for our Environment

In a Facebook campaign post on 07/17/2020, our current 89th Assembly District Representative, John Nygren, claimed he will “work hard to do what’s best and will continue to do so on all issues including water contamination.” I would like to take a minute to address that claim, as his voting history clearly shows otherwise. In fact, Representative Nygren received a higher rating from Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (100%) than he did from Wisconsin Conservation Voters (0%) and Wisconsin’s chapter of the Sierra Club (0%) for 2017-18 legislative session.

Wisconsin Conservation Voters Endorsement

I am extremely proud to be endorsed by Wisconsin Conservation Voters! I am committed to clean water, clean energy, and a safe and equitable democracy. When elected, I look forward to working with our State’s conservation voters!

Sign Delivery Day #2

I had another enjoyable evening of delivering yard signs! Thank you very much for all the kind words, encouragement, and support.

The People's Maps Commission

Voting is a fundamental right—our democracy is strongest when everyone is allowed to participate in free, open, and fair elections.

WI GOP Convention

I said it last week, and I’ll say it again: We can’t pretend our way out of this pandemic—we’re all in the together and we need to start behaving that way.

Sign Delivery Day #1

I had a great day delivering yard signs today!

Yard Signs Are In!

I am very excited to announce that my union-made yard signs are in!

COVID-19 Cases

Today was another record-setting day for new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin, with 754. (The previous one-day record was 738 on 07/04/2020, and before that it was 733 on 05/09/2020).

More Than $160 Million in Transportation Aid Announced for the State

Sufficient funding to maintain local roads and improve road safety is an important part of economic development in our state. Many Towns, Villages and County Boards are unable to make needed repairs to rural roads, bridges and public infrastructure as a result of Republican budget cuts and limits on local control.

State GOP Holding Convention in Hot Spot

In another show of reckless disregard for the health and safety of our Wisconsin friends, neighbors, and essential workers, the Wisconsin Republican Party insists on holding their in-person state convention in Green Bay this week.

Wisconsin Marks Independence Day With Single Day Record Of 738 New COVID-19 Cases

Wisconsin’s rate of positive COVID-19 rates nearly doubled yesterday, when we set a one-day record of 738 new cases (the second-highest number of cases in a single day occurred on May 29, with 733 cases).

Happy Independence Day!

Please celebrate responsibly and stay safe in the heat.

Voter Registration Info Event

Last week when the President was in town the Marinette County Democratic Party held a pro-BLM/pro-Biden voter registration info event.

Expanded Health Care Follow-up

A quick follow-up on my post from June 29:

Oklahoma voters approved the federal Medicaid expansion!

From the article: "Voters are tired of politicians ignoring the problem or worse, trying to take their healthcare away, and they're rejecting that approach in even the deepest of red states"

The ACA and Medicaid Compared

To repeat what I said yesterday, health care is a right, not a privilege. Every Wisconsin resident should have access to high-quality, affordable health care when they need it.

Healthcare Heroes Act

The Republican-led Legislature needs to come back into session and pass the Healthcare Heroes Act.

Expanded Health Care

You’ll hear me say this often--health care is a right, not a privilege. Every Wisconsin resident should have access to high-quality, affordable health care when they need it. Accepting federal Medicaid expansion will insure 16% (approximately 180,000) more Wisconsinites.

Absentee Ballots

Absentee ballots are hitting mailboxes already!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

A very happy 64th birthday to my dad, Tom Jaeger!

Follow-Up to the President's Visit

I did a brief interview with the Washington Post regarding the President’s visit to Marinette Marine.

Regarding the President's Visit to Marinette

I am saddened to see President Trump coming to take a victory lap in my backyard just months before Election Day because it’s clear he only cares about us now that November is just around the corner.

Funding our Schools

Our schools should have the resources they need to prepare our children to be engaged, active citizens of the 21st century, and to keep them healthy as we determine the best way to safely reopen in the fall.

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father-figures out there!

Accountability and Transparency in Policing in Wisconsin

Our communities are strongest when all individuals are treated fairly and have equal justice under the law.

Voting by mail is safe, secure and should be encouraged.

Our democracy is strongest when everyone is allowed to participate in free, open, and fair elections.

A Win for Wisconsin Voters

Success! Like I said this morning, our democracy is strongest when everyone is allowed to participate in free, open, and fair elections.

"We're All In" Small Business Grants

Starting today, June 15 at 8:00am, the WEDC will begin accepting applications for Wisconsin’s “We’re All In” small business grant initiative.

Wisconsin Farm Support Program

Starting today, June 15 2020, the Department of Revenue will begin accepting applications for Wisconsin’s Farm Support Program initiative.

Republicans ask Judge to Halt Elections Lawsuit

Voting is a fundamental right—our democracy is strongest when everyone is allowed to participate. We need to do everything we can to provide safe, reasonable, and fair access.

Healthcare is a Right, not a Privilege

Healthcare is a right, not a privilege—Wisconsin should absolutely accept the Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act. Every Wisconsin resident should have access to high-quality, affordable healthcare when they need it.

Our ongoing COVID-19 health crisis has shown yet again how important it is that every citizen has access to fair, affordable healthcare. Thousands of Wisconsinites have lost their jobs and thus their health insurance, and the Republican-led legislature has yet to author or sign on to any plan to alleviate this burden on Wisconsin’s uninsured families. They have a long history of opposing expanded healthcare.

In 2011 Representative Nygren co-authored two bills that would have allowed insurance companies to ignore state-mandated consumer protections that ensured coverage for a host of issues, including diabetes, autism, and cochlear implants for children:

More recently, Gov. Evers included Medicaid expansion in his budget last year, but the Republican majority in the Legislature stripped that provision from the spending plan. GOP leaders have since refused to take up a stand-alone Medicaid-expansion bill.

Accepting that Medicaid expansion would reduce Wisconsin’s uninsured population by 16%. (Full study here: Thousands of uninsured Wisconsinites could have insurance today if the GOP would start putting the Needs of our people before the Wants of their healthcare industry donors.

Putting People First

Everyone knows that Big Business has great representation in Madison – it’s the everyday people of Wisconsin that need it. I am running for Assembly to bring your voice back to Madison. I will put People First and represent the citizens of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Rental Assistance Program

Starting today, June 8, 2020, Wisconsinites can apply for up to $3,000 for rental assistance or security deposits through the Wisconsin Coronavirus Relief Fund's Wisconsin Rental Assistance Program (W.R.A.P.)

JCI/Tyco Refuses Regulators' Demands To Test More Wells For PFAS

For those of you impacted by or concerned about the JCI/Tyco PFAS contamination in Marinette County: as of Monday, June 1 2020, JCI/Tyco has refused to test the potable water wells in the expanded plume, as directed by the Wisconsin DNR in February 2020.

For the time being, anyone who would like to have their water tested for PFAS contamination will have to pay for it out of their own pocket.

Please see the attached article for details on the ongoing investigation.

Black Lives Matter

Our communities are strongest when all individuals are treated fairly and have equal justice under the law.

On the Ballot!

One more enthusiastic “thank you” to all the citizens of Wisconsin’s 89th Assembly District who mailed, walked, and drove their signatures to the campaign! The kind words, encouragement, and support were inspiring and I am thrilled to say I will be on the ballot in November.

Happy Pride Month!

Happy Pride month, everyone! Pride month reminds us to celebrate, support, and raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights. LGBTQIA+ Wisconsinites should have the same rights as everyone else.

Thanks, and stay safe out there.

Wisconsin is #StrongerTogether
